About Pernille

I am an authorized psychologist and work with stress, distress, anxiety, grief, abuse/addiction, eating disorders, depression, and life crises, among other things. I have a particular interest in grief reactions and grief processing, as well as stress burdens and long-term consequences that loved ones may experience.

I work with individuals, couples, and groups. My clients are of all ages, though not children under 10, unless it is in connection with guidance for family members.

Values

You are valuable in yourself – regardless of what you bring – and I want to get to know you well so I can support and help in a way that makes sense to you. Therefore, I always strive to meet you with presence, curiosity, calm, time, and respect. You will have a safe space where everything can be said aloud, with room for all thoughts and feelings.

We all encompass multiple facets. Some we gladly show; others may be associated with shame, doubt, or self-criticism. When we are pressured by, for example, stress, anxiety, depression, illness, or trauma, old habits that once protected us can begin to hinder us. It can feel stuck and frustrating. We work on understanding what is happening within and outside of you and why. We also work on what courses of action might be available, so it can become more manageable and you can feel better.

I enjoy following people over time. Life has its ups and downs, and new crises can reopen old wounds. One might also face new challenges, or it can simply be comforting to discuss things in a safe space occasionally. I will walk alongside you and support you when you need it and for as long as you wish.

Approach

People are different, and therapy should be too. I therefore do my best to tailor the process to you and your situation by drawing on methods from various approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic and mentalization-based therapy, positive psychology, as well as systemic, narrative, and existential psychotherapy. We work with both understanding and concrete tools you can use in everyday life—whether the goal is to manage stress, alleviate anxiety, relieve sadness, process trauma, or strengthen relationships, etc.

Experience

I have worked as a psychologist since 2011 with individual therapy, group therapy, couples counseling, teaching, advice, and guidance.

I have experience from substance abuse treatment and psychiatry, working with adolescents in a youth center, individuals with acquired brain injury, lonely seniors, and as an advisor at Sex & Society.

Furthermore, for several years I worked in Norway with addiction and substance abuse—including alcohol, drugs, and gambling addiction—with a special focus on family treatment at the hospital in Kristiansand. The experience from there has given me a solid foundation for working both with the individual and with the relationships that matter and influence us as people.

Further Education

I place great importance on continuing my education and have taken a number of courses in both Norway and Denmark. I have particularly specialized in treatment for loved ones and in treating grief and crises.
